Registration and Issuance of I-TRACK Projects and Certificates

TPC is the accredited local issuer for I-TRACK Certificates in Oman. We register projects and issue certificates that are compliant with the I-TRACK Attribute Tracking Standard (formerly the I-REC Attribute Tracking Standard) and I-TRACK Electricity Code (i.e. I-REC (E)s).

  • What Are I-TRACK Electricity Certificates (i.e. I-REC (E)s)?

I-TRACK Electricity Certificates (formerly the I-REC Electricity Certificate) refer to 1 MWh of electricity that has been produced and distributed into an electricity grid. To count as an I-TRACK Certificate, the 1 MWh must come from a validated and registered I-TRACK 'Device (i.e. power plant), and each claim of energy production must be approved by an I-TRACK issuer. I-TRACKs can be bought and sold on the open market, providing additional revenue to your project. As a purchaser of I-TRACKs, your company can use I-TRACKs as support for evidencing specific Market-Based Scope 2 emissions for your company. The I-TRACK Foundation Standard and Electricity Code Documents provide a standard and guidance for a robust and transparent Energy Attribute Tracking System. The I-TRACK Standard has been developed by the International Tracking Standard Foundation (I-TRACK, but formerly known as the International Renewable Energy Certificate Standard Foundation or I-REC), a non-profit organization that provides support to local stakeholders and government authorities to facilitate national implementation of I-TRACKs. The I-TRACK Standard ensures that all I-TRACKs are in adherence with major international sustainability standards including the GHGP, CDP, RE100, ISO and others. Energy consumers can use I-TRACKs to meet the requirements of these standards and/or corporate social responsibility policies.

  • A Grid-Connected Electricity Providers (Devices) send their power to the electricity-grid that is comingled with other providers. When you use (and thus purchase) electricity from the grid, you are getting electricity from multiple sources. I-TRACKs are an independently tracked, validated, and verified mechanism for certifying 1 MWh of a specified electricity source / type. Purchasing I-TRACKs allows you to claim the Market-Based emissions profile of that electricity source / type. Simultaneously, this allows project owners to sell these certificates, adding an additional source of revenue to their project and operations. I-TRACKs are also known as Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) or Guarantees of Origin. Through the use of I-TRACKs, end-users around the world can make reliable claims about their energy usage such as: “my factory runs on 100% renewable energy”, “our products are made with 100% wind energy” and “our global electricity usage causes zero end-of-pipe emissions”. Without the use of EACs such as I-TRACKs, it would be impossible to make these reliable claims because electricity is not a tangible product that can be boxed and sent from the producer to the consumer.

  • Essentially, all grid-connected electricity systems (i.e. production or generation facility) are eligible to receive I-TRACKs for each MWh that they produce. First, the 'Device' facility (i.e. the power plant) itself needs to be registered (by a ‘Registrant’). After the Device facility has been approved by the accredited local Issuer, then the Registrant can request for I-TRACKs to be issued for a specific production period. The Issuer will validate and verify the production data. Once this is approved, I-TRACKs are provided and sent to the Registrant's Participant Account (i.e. an account holder relevant for holding, transferring, or redeeming I-TRACKs) or they can be sent to a third-party's Participant Account directly at the time of issuance.

  • The I-TRACK Foundation specifically partners and accredits local entities in each country to implement and manage the I-TRACK Standard. These entities are called “Issuers” and are responsible for reviewing and approving the registration of production 'Devices' (e.g. a solar plant), while also validating, verifying and issuing the I-TRACK Certificates themselves. Three Pillars Consulting is proud to be the accredited local Issuer working with and on-behalf of the I-TRACK Foundation for the Omani Market. As the accredited local Issuer, Three Pillars Consulting is not involved in the generation of its own power / electricity nor the sale or brokering of I-TRACK Certificates.
