Assessment and Registration of Carbon Credits for Your Projects
We support companies looking to assess the feasibility of registering their projects for carbon credits.
We support companies looking to assess the feasibility of registering their projects for carbon credits.
Carbon Credits refer to 1 tonne of GHG emissions that have been removed from the atmosphere or avoided from being emitted. Projects that want to generate carbon credits for their projects must follow specific methods, guidelines, and evaluation procedures in order to certify those emissions reductions are real and legitimate. Carbon Credits can be registered on several 'registries' such as the UN's Clean Development Mechanism, Verra, or the Gold Standard, among others.
A primary requirement is that a project must demonstrate that their emissions reductions are different than the business-as-usual scenario. This is referred to as 'Additionality', meaning that the emissions reductions would not have occurred in the absence of a market for carbon credits. In other words, a project must show that carbon credits and the potential revenue generated from the sale of carbon credits played a role in the establishment of the project compared to a business-as-usual project that would have had higher emissions (or less reductions).
The prices of carbon credits range very significantly depending on the type of project, where the project is located, and in which market you sell your credits. Some credits can sell for as little as fifty U.S. cents, while others can get over $100 U.S. dollars. Credits with higher value tend to be projects that have more environmental and social benefits associated with them. Those additional benefits might be the reduction of other environmental impacts (i.e. water consumption, non-GHG air emissions) or it could be education and training for lower-income communities, as an example.
We work with companies early on in the concept phase of their projects to establish the feasibility of carbon credit projects in their plans and potential options for project implementation. Our team provides early cost-benefit analysis to identify the potential GHG reductions, revenue streams, and costs of registering the project so that the company can make a better decision as to whether they should pursue carbon credits. Additionally, we will provide full technical support when it comes to choosing a methodology, project design document, and monitoring/auditing plan. TPC is also an active account holder with Verra and can act as the project's registrant in order to get your credits issued to you.
